APPLICATION

Leo-C is a volume regulator that works independently of the duct pressure; it is the desired airflow at the throttled damper that determines the necessary duct pressure for the unit/line in question.
The VAV unit is based on dynamic measurement of airflow and regulates the damper position so that the desired airflow is maintained. When there is a change in duct pressure, for example when other volume regulators on the branch open or close, the volume regulator will compensate by adjusting the damper until the desired volume is achieved again.
The desired airflow is, for example, given as a 0-10V signal from the room thermostat / CO2 sensor in the occupied zone the unit serves. The desired minimum and maximum air flow rates can be set at the factory, or after installation, using service tools from Belimo or Siemens.
The VAV unit is intended for comfort ventilation with temperature conditions between 0°C and 50°C and relative humidity between 5% and 95% without condensation. 
The controller is connected via a 4-wire cable to different room control equipment . Here it is important that a common reference is used throughout for all equipment.
For the VAV controller, wire no. 1 is system- 0. All control and measurement signals are connected in relation to this. Wiring diagrams for Leo-C in combination with various room controllers can be found on our website www.trox.no.

Execution

Leo-C VAV is designed as a complete measurement and control unit for demand control of air volumes in ventilation systems. The measuring station measures differential pressure via measuring rods integrated in the unit. The unit is easy to position in relation to the required straight line and can therefore be placed in most parts of the duct system. It complies with tightness class 4 for damper blades in the closed position, and class C for leakage to the surroundings.
Leo-C is equipped with a VAV controller from Belimo or Siemens.
Belimo LMV-D3-FK AU is used on dim. Ø100-Ø250.
Siemens GDB181.1E is used on dim. Ø100-Ø250.

Belimo LMV/NMV-D3 MP which is used for analog control or for MP-bus.
Belimo MOD/BACnet motor or Siemens BACnet motor can also be supplied.
For KNX, Belimo LMV-D3-KNX and NMV-D3-KNX or Siemens GDB181.1E/KN and GLB181.1E/KN can be used.

DESCRIPTION

Material and surface treatment

Leo-C is made of galvanized steel. The measuring junction is made of aluminum and has end plugs in nylon, hose adapters in ABS and measuring outlets in TPU 90A.
Damper blade in galvanized steel, shaft is made of glass fibre reinforced nylon. Hoses and motor enclosure are in plastic.
The connections on LEO-C have EPDM rubber seals.

INSTALLATION

In order to maintain satisfactory measurement accuracy, it is important that it is mounted with distances as shown in figures 6 and 7. It is recommended to mount Leo-C with service distance according to figure 8. 
For supply air: When installing in a branch, we recommend min. 2xDia. distance between branch and Leo-C. Leo-C can be installed directly after the bend without significantly affecting the measurement accuracy. 
For exhaust: When installing together with a silencer, a min. 2xDia. distance between silencer and Leo-C, if a silencer with center baffle or other narrowing of the cross section is used. When using a free-flow silencer, the silencer can be mounted directly on Leo-C. As shown in figure 7.

Leo-C always regulates itself to the airflow that corresponds to the signal from the room controller. The VAV unit consists of a control damper and an airflow measuring station. Through the measuring station, the airflow that the unit currently has is measured and this value is compared with the demand signal, and then the damper is regulated so that the correct airflow is achieved. If the VAV damper is placed close to a branch or bend, the damper shaft should follow the change in direction of the bend/branch for the best possible measurement accuracy and controllability.
If VAV dampers are placed close to the branch, turbulence may interfere with airflow measurement and create a measurement deviation. Turbulence is affected by the velocity in the main duct and side duct, as well as by the relationship between the ducts .
At low velocity in the main duct (< 4 m/s), a satisfactory measurement accuracy will be achieved at 2xØD distance between VAV and branch. 
At higher speeds in the main duct, the distance should be increased to at least 3xØD.
